THE VIEW FROM HYDE PARK

The two huge tower-proposals are twice as high as the existing towers. These are already too high, because they can be seen from the Park and spoil the effect of its rusticity. The first tower to ruin this effect, which lasted throughout the whole dominance of London during its great commercial 'Empire', and huge 19C population-growth, was the architecturally-commonplace Hilton Hotel. The Marble Arch tower and the Lancaster Gate Hotel -originally started as a speculative office building and then converted, when half built, are even more dumbly cretinous.
